Job Responsibilities
Monday through Friday work approximately 7 hours per day. On
weeends if make reuire from 4 -7 hours; however, only when the
sport teams have games. Major responsiblities include
rehabilitation of athletic injuries under th eguidance of our
team physician. Cover all home practices and games for sport
teams. Perform taping and bracing of athletes whenever needed.
Set up strength and conditioning programs for teams and
individual atheltes. Also perform class instruction in the
Principles of Strength and Conditionig for students in area
colleges, along with DeSales University. Set up
preparticipation physicals and tests for athetles to bve used
as part of scrrening to make sure athles have no preexisting
conditions which may hamper them or harm them in any way.

Job Requirements
Atheltic traiing education courses are not easy. Includes
Anatomy and Physiology, Exercise Physiology, Kinesiology,
Biomechanics of Sports, plus Athetlic Training Principles,
Therapeutic Modalities and Exercise. Workload is intense, plus
have internship with sport teams. Gradin gis fair, but you
musdt b e able to put forth an honest effort. Professors are
very knowleagable in the area.

Uppers
To be able to enjoy sports and to be active in athetles participation in their
chosen sport. Being able to rehabilitate someone from an injury such as an ACL
tear, and aafter the long laborious rehab see the athelte come back and play the
way they were used to prior to their injury.

Downers
Sometimes, the long hours and weekends covering sports do take
their toll. With two young children a lotof their activites are
held on weeknends, and I am not able to attend all of their
functions.

Lifestyle
Work hours are getting better, plus you have the summers off, to do what you
want. No travel invilved in my positiojn. In some schools you must travel with
the team, particularly if you have football at your institution.

Compensation
Base salary depends on whether you have Masters deegree or not.
On the college level salaries tend to be a little less to start,
anywhere between $25,000-$40,000; Bebefits include 401K,
insurance, tuition expense fopr graduate courses waived,
alllowances for licenses, plus continuing education exppenses
paid. Paid time off, summers are off.

Advice to Jobseekers
Job look is immense. If the job seekeer can get more dual
certifications, such as physical therapy, strength and
conditioning, they will become more marketable. Athetlic
Training is now recognized as an allied health profession, and is expanding to
other nontraditional settings such as work
places, hospitals, and as physician extenders. The
possibliliteis arelimitless.
