Job Responsibilities
Hire and train new employees; payroll; marketing; night audit; assign housekeeping and maintenance duties each day; meet sales reps; order office, laundry, and maintenance supplies; and assist with guest comments/complaints. Weekly hours varies from 60 to 80 hours per week.
Job Requirements
The only training I've received for this position has been manuals supplied from the franchise merchant and on-line courses offered by the same. With exceptional office management skills learned in the military, the manuals and on-line course were fairly easy.
Uppers
Meeting new people each day offers one of the best perks of this job. Having an apartment furnished as part of the salary package is also a perk.
Downers
There are no set hours that are "free hours". One has to schedule free time, and consider that even scheduled free time may not be possible. Living on property means that I am on duty basically 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Lifestyle
A professional appearance is a must. You should always dress for the position you want, rather than the position you have. It is a stressful environment and it is imperative that one maintains a level of composure through all situations.
Compensation
I am furnished an apartment that includes all utilities, cable television, internet access, telephone, and furniture, with my base salary of $400 per week. When the owners of the hotel sell the property, I will receive an undisclosed bonus.
Advice to Jobseekers
This position should only be considered if you have no family ties. It is very demanding, but rewarding. Be willing to do whatever needs to be done. If someone doesn't show up for work, it is your responsibility to do the job yourself, even housekeeping or maintenance.
