Job Responsibilities
Although I am not currently working, I will be returning after my surgery - our responsibility didn't change from day to day, the customers we had to deal with weren't the same. I was sworn at daily, called everything except a white person daily, and the lies!! Geeze, I wanted to be a cop, it's to easy catching people in lies over the phone. There is the odd customer that I have had a "side conversation" with. I call "you" up, computer dialed, of course, I identify myself and company I am calling from, and it's any man's guess what goes on from there. I have been swore at and the words the woman used were pretty ripe, and she was around 75 is, cuz I looked at her birthdate in her file. I couldn't help but laugh when she hung up on me. Team members that get along well help also, I am on an awesome team of about 15-ish ppl. Back to what I did, I tell you how much you owe on a certain account and try to get you to pay it through me, no there is no commission, for the team leaders, yes. This was and is a full time job, super stressful. I have seen ppl crying, b/c a customer called them a not nice name. I've seen people come and be gone before the 2 week traing period is over.
Job Requirements
This company has a high turnover when it comes to their employees, kids, a.k.a. highschool students, think it's a sinchy job after the first week they are sick of it already,But there is the excitement still to come of going on the phones and computers for 8 hours a day.Mind you this company is only a tad over a year old,i started the month after they opened. They want you to have a grade 12 to do this job,but trust me a grade 7 or 8 could train and do the job.Workload is just nut's at times, inbound calls continuesly, and for hours too,you sure do consume a huge amount of fluid due to talking so much.
Uppers
My uppers are when I speak to people over the phone, I listen to problems, some make me sad, some make me feel bad,and some make me feel for the person, but that's a rarety. I give advice the odd time, b/c most times what these people are going through I can say been there done that. I really like my co-workers, we all make the day go alot nicer for each other, I have made some awesome friends since starting there. Of course money, lots of other incentives and draws and crap when you do overtime for them.
Downers
Most ppl you ask who work there would say,"Just Being There" !!!! The worst parts are hearing the sad stories, and you get used to the real versus the phoney too. Seeing something you know darn well came from yourself, by the ppl whom listen in on the calls, yes calls are really monitored. Seriously if you can handle your stress level going through the roof daily, don't mind being told off or sworn at and called names then "This is the job 4 u" - I wouldn't recomend it to anyone, well yes I would someone I really dislike. Some people thing they can take it,alot fall down too.
Lifestyle
Work hours, we change our hours of work in spring and fall.business travel only happens for ppl who are managers withing. There is suppose to be a "Strict Dress Code" Only once in the year I worked there did I see the dress code in effect. Do you know how it makes you wanna puke when you are having lunch and someone's underwear are hanging out, skin showing, I think it's called "No Bare Midriff"! other workers have attitude,I have seen a couple teens drinking friggen shooters before their shift.Mind you the teens seem to be on the "night shift". I've worked the night shift and they are totally different that we day ppl are.
Compensation
you start out at $8.50 and with your incentive pay you make $10.00 for sittin on your butt all friggen day, really. There are lots of contests and draws done as incentives, this company gives away,32 inch T.V's,DVD players,etc..you just know the items are costly..oh well tax write off..
Advice to Jobseekers
I would say nothing but the truth,if they can handle the stress and they will indeed feel it after their first week on the phone, and of course stress makes you tired,so you get off work in mid-afternoon,go home, laydown and relax, next thing you know it like 11 pm,it isn't a job for someone who never sleeps that's for sure.As for the future of this company there is a good job outlook, there is always room to climb up within, pretty much it's all up to you if and how far you want to go...
