Dealing with families in crisis. Often dealing with families
where child abuse has been discovered. Therefore, trying to
teach carers to keep their children safe and to help the
child/ren to work through their problems.

Need a minimum of a child care award or an appropriate
undergraduate degree.

The bewst part is if you can actually make a difference to a child or a family.

When families split or children have to be taken into care for
their own safety. This is very hard.

Lifestyle
You have to be unshockable. Be patient and not expect great changes to happen
quickly. Informal dress and be able to communicate at an appropriate level with
all strata of society. Be non- judgemental but be aware of what is allowable and
what is not. Do not impose your standards on others yours is not the only way
that can work

Compensation
Basic salary is mid range - you will not get rich doing this
job. There are no monetary bonus or stock options. You must
like children and people and be patient.

The job is very rewarding in the fact that it is so interesting.
No too cases are ever the same. You are very much your own boss
and you carry out the work with families mainly in their own
homes and report back to social workers.
