Job Responsibilities
Well to begin the day, you had to start with the basics as far as what products and types of ham you needed to package. We had to set up the products by a five digit number and if they needed to have a sell by date or not. After that they had to be bagged in a special bag, labeled with a special label, boxed in a special box. If there were different products then you had to keep the labels seperate as well as the boxes and make sure that the right product was labeled correctly. You had to keep hourly paperwork on everything you did, or didn't do. Everything had to be done a certian way.
Job Requirements
For the groupleader job that I had the only education requirement was a high school diploma.
Uppers
The best part about the job was that you had the responsibilties that no one else had. It was your job to do the best that you could, and in most cases do better next time. You had to give 110% at all times. The pay for the job was pretty good, and they had great insurance benifiets. The job was one that you had to pay attention, be alert and willing to work your hardest even if you was sick. They do have personel days, but for the pay you really do not want to miss a day of work.
Downers
The worst part about the job was that it is packaging meat, so it was always 45 degrees. If the temperature got warmer than that the part of the plant was shut down. They had to have three shifts of employees, but the second shift was pretty late so I really don't suggest that someone with small children work the evening shift, but the day shift was pretty good.
Lifestyle
The job alone takes a toll on your lifestyle. The hours that I worked left no time what so ever for a personel life unless you were involved with someone you worked with. There was no travel involved in my position but the salaried position did require some travel. As far as social events, they used to sponser a once a year picnic. About twice a year they sponser a turkey dinner, or hot dogs. The dress code is just dress a warm as possible but still comfortable. The diversity varies from plant to plant.
Compensation
The company offers stock option and 401k. The salary varies depending on wich job is available. My jobs salary was 10.00/hr. Plus I had a bonus of 1/hr extra for every hour I worked as long as you had worked the schedule. The benifits were different depending on your location.
Advice to Jobseekers
The outlook for this company is great, simply because as humans we have to eat, everyone I know loves thier brand of ham. I still buy the product even after working there for five years. If you want to work a honest day for an honest dollar, then this is for you. The work is worth the money.
