posting all on campus grants and scholarships. This job
requires me to work with all departments on campus Graduate as
well as undergraduate. This also requires day to day
monitoring, since these students may drop or sign up for
programs. I work with over 5.5 million dollars in grant money.

Job Requirements
I worked in the UG admission office for 7.5 years and since
Financial Aid is also part of Enrollment services I already knew
a considerable amount about this office as well. I had already
began working in our new Student Software Program "Banner"
before the Financial Aid Office did so this also gave me an
advantage since they were looking for someone to put in my
position that was already familiar with Banner. My
position "Funds Compliance Specialist" was created due to Banner.
I had also taken classes on campus. I had taken these classes
in 2001, which was also a good advantage for me since I also
needed to be able to incorporate microsoft excel into my daily
job. I also use other mircrosoft office applications as well.

Downers
It's a state institution so there is not much room for pay
raises, not sure if you know but Virginia was in Debt like most
states a few years back so our first raise in 3 yrs was last
Dec,2004. Our raise lasted until June 2005 when our health
insurance went up so there went the only raise we had had in
3yrs, then in Aug 2005 our parking went up so my paycheck went
down again, I am now bringing home less than I was before I got
my raise in Dec 2004. This is a major downfall when your trying
to make ends meet and your going backwards.

Lifestyle
since I have a staff posistion it does not require travel, we do have social
events, lunches, holiday partys ect which are very nice. The diversity is great
here at W&M they strive to make this a diverse campus. Its a great working
envirnment.

Compensation
We have great vacation benefits, sick leave, personal leave,
stock options and retirment. That is one of the great perks for
not getting great pay.

Advice to Jobseekers
Get as much education as you possibly can, this is what will
increase your salary. I think my downfall is not having enough
education.
