Job Responsibilities
Working for Coca Cola Enterprises you never just have one job!! My job was suppose to be Cooler delivery/service. I drove a truck to pick up and deliver Coke machines in five counties and two states, handled all paper work, programed all machines, washed, refurbed, painted, dismantled, customer service. Also did all speacial event set ups , did service calls on C-Stores and major eating outlets. Also when short handed helped out in warehouse, loading and unloading all route trucks, also filled in at least two weekends out of a month Merchindising bulk store routes such as Walmart! I also was called on when short on route drivers to help drive route trucks on routes. Many times I would drive a 18 wheeler to Dallas Texas to pick up needed product. I also did fountain installs in stores and eating places.
Job Requirements
when i was hired on in 1998 it was no problem getting on with only a high school diploma, after moving to the Service dept I had to take one basic eletric class provided by the company. I was suppose to take many more, but was never allowed by the managers, because of time? It was alot of trial and error! NO Managers in my plant had any College, so when you talked about going back to school they would try to start working you over time to change your mind.
Uppers
The best parts about my job were I worked 7 a. to 330p. mon. thru fri., I did work weekends when I was needed for other depts. the blue colar workers I worked around were great, but Managers you had to watch out for, they played as your friend then tried to bring out your faults! always tring to find your wrongs!! I LIKED BEING OUT IN THE PUBLIC! You never new from day to day what you would be doing.
Downers
If you got a cost of living raise like you were suppose to it would be aroud 3- 5% and your health insurance would go up about 30%. If you changed jobs from one dept to another you were suppose to start over at the bottom of that depts. pay scale. The company has a saying putting our people first, but that is very far from true. It's put the customer first ,employees last and if you don't like it there's the door!!!!!
Lifestyle
Coca Cola Enterprises still runs by the buddy system in many areas. You don't get looked at for your hard work like you are told! It's alot of what have you done for me?? If there was ever any kind of social event such as a Christmas party and you weren't able to come you were looked down on by Managers for a long while. If you didn't golf you were looked down on by Managers, but only Managers got to miss five days out of a work week to attend a golfing party!!!!
Compensation
I started at 9.55 hr in 1998 in the warehouse and could really work all the overtime wanted. Someone ratted on our plant manager because Dallas was getting paid like 12% MORE for the same job so I got a raise. I went to 13.67 hr. later when I was moved to leadman of the warehouse. In Aug. of 2000 I got a job in the Cooler/Service dept. and started over at 12.00hr with no over time. On my last day with the company Jan 09-04 I was back up to making 13.70 hr. with very very little over time.
Advice to Jobseekers
My advice to any one looking at Coca Cola Enterprises for a future, is always watch your back! when I was hired on I was told by the Plant Manager that I would never have to look for a job again and that I was at the number 1 company in the world!! He always said they would never put anyone on the street!! I always tried to prove myself and show that I could do just as good as the other guy if not better! I always tried to show the new people anything I could. I always filled in anytime I was asked or even when I wasn't asked!! If you don't play golf you better take it up if you want to retire from this company! Just because the plant Manager tells you something that doesn't mean that it is the truth. Coca Cola is going through alot of changes that they don't want the public to know about. Last year they stopped matching your 401k 50cents on the dollar to 25cents on the dollar. After six years with the company I was let go because they had done away with my job, but said I was not qualified for anything else! They found a full time job for a part time guy that had been with the company six months at the same time they were letting me go. 60 people in the plant and the Manager couldn't find me anything to keep a job, but one position that was a two hour drive one way from my home! It just happened to be that the guy they gave the job to was on the golf course with the Managers even on days when he was suppose to be working. (THE BUDDY SYSTEM)!!! I would of stayed at this company for the rest of my life, but I never thought in a Million years that they would let me go after every thing I had done. That's putting your people first letting me go right after Christmas with a wife and two kids and left my family with no Health insurance for my family! So all new comers you take it for what it's worth and make it what you can!! i've tried and tried to contact Atlanta because of the way I was done, but it seems no one cares, I guess you really are just a number!!!
