Job Requirements
There was no set education needed for this position. It was asked that you have experience in the field, and spots all went to internal employees who had working knowledge of the company.
Uppers
-The hours do provide a little bit of flexibility which is good for people working a second job, parents who need to pick their children up from school, dr's appts, etc. -This type of job seems to attract very caring and sympathetic people. No matter where I move in the organization I seem to work with a great team. -The pay is fair for the type/amount of work done. If an employee feels they are not being paid enough there are channells to go through to have the job evaluated. -It's unionized so there is good job security and working conditions.
Downers
-The type of work can be stressful. Hearing so many people so upset can get to the employees after a while. -Some of the clientelle can be crude or violent, have explosive tempers, be argumentative, etc. Sometimes it take a thick skin. -The organization does tend to be a rumour mill. Many employees have been around a long time, and have moved from office to office. As a result, everyone knows each other.
Lifestyle
-Hours are generally 8:30-4:30 unless other arrangements are made. -There isn't a lot of business travel unless it's to another site for a meeting. -There are some opportunities to attend local conferences and workshops -Training money is provided if you want to take a class or workshop to improve yourself. -Dress is business casual with casual day every pay-day (bi-weekly) -It's a very social bunch so there are a lot of showers, stag and does, parties, etc advertised. -The company hosts a large Christmas dinner & party which is always a lot of fun and run very well.
Compensation
There is no compensation. An employee is paid 35 hours per week, and any overtime is banked and used towards time off in the future. Milage is paid for some employees who have to go elsewhere occasionally to conduct business.
Advice to Jobseekers
It's certainly a job that will always be necessary. Although it's tough to get into, it's certainly rewarding and I would recommend anyone keep trying no matter how long it takes. It's important to remember that no matter where you go in the organization, new co-workers will know your old ones so don't burn any bridges.
