Job Responsibilities
Since I am a litigator, my major responsibilities include legal
research, writing memoranda of law, writing briefs, reviewing
documents, writing interview and deposition questions, doing
privilege logs, etc.
|
Job Requirements
You need to have law degree. Large law firms like Cleary recruit
at mostly highly ranked law schools and demand good grades.
|
Uppers
People are nice and respectful, you learn a lot about both different areas of
the law and the different functions and duties litigators must preform, the pay
is good, and when you work late, which unfortunately is often, you get free
dinner and a car home.
|
Downers
Long hours and monotonous tasks (i.e., document review).
|
Lifestyle
Work hours are long (10-8 or longer), travel varies, social events are very
frequent in the summer and not frequent during the rest of the year although we
do have wine and cheese every Friday, dress is business casual, and diversity is
seen as an important goal.
|
Compensation
Salary for first year starts with a $125,000 base salary and an
automatic bonus of $30,000 regardless of hours billed.
|
Advice to Jobseekers
Make sure you are genuinely interested in the law before spending
$150,000 to go to law school.
