Job Responsibilities
Making sure the patient gets the right care at the right time in the right setting. Utilizing Guidelines.
Job Requirements
RN w/ minimum 5 years of Hospital experience. It would be very difficult to succeed w/ the minimum qualifications. You really need significantly more experience and a strong knowledge about many different disease processes and a great willingness and desire to keep yourself abreast of any new developments ie drugs, surgeries, devices and treatments. ICU?ER/Trauma experience would make this job doable. Must possess a positive, collaborative, respectful style that generates respect. You must be extremely resourceful and knowledgable about computers if you work remotely.
Uppers
Able to work as a remote worker in your area/home. Lots of professional contact. If you are successful in this job, you get lots of respect from the entire medical community you interact with. With so much networking, I get offered jobs several times a day....
Downers
Even though this job requires a very self-motivated, autonomous individual, Cigna, Phoenix micro-manages every one. I believe this quality is only present in the Phoenix hub. They may be changing. Some now are beginning to realize they are working w/ Professionals. The rest of Cigna runs a much more respectful and thus professional ship. This is a salaried position. You work until the work is done. The workload is tough. Sometimes, overwhelming. You CANNOT allow the pressure from the top being placed onto you to be transferred to the providers you have developed a relationship with. This would undermine all of the work you have done to achieve a workable situation. Much of this is dependant upon the abilities of each individual. The managers at the Phoenix hub have yet to figure this part out.
Lifestyle
Early work hours. The earlier the better. Some start at 0400 I hear. Everyday minimum 10 hours, sometimes 12 hours. Minimal social events at company. When on-site at the hospital, business dress required.
Compensation
70,000/year, 401k, retirement plan Cigna likes to think the base salary is in the low 50's. They get what they pay for.
Advice to Jobseekers
You have got to be very tough in the presence of some difficult situations. That is why an ER/Trauma RN would be very successful in this role. As w/ all nursing positions, there just are not enough of us.....
