Some college is prefered.
Uppers
Great hours and holidays off. Easy job. You meet a a lot of well educated and well connected people. I found out later that they will actually pay for college classes while you work there.
Downers
Being low man on the totem pole means that your quarterly bonuses are practically non-existant and low scores for the banks performance are blamed on you. You do not get paid much at all, $10.00 - $12.00 an hour. Plus, customers are not always very nice to bank tellers
Lifestyle
Work hours are great, basically 8-4:30 or 10-6:30. Chase retail offers quarterly recognition events which are usually pretty nice. They also have a nice Winter Holdiay party. Dress code when I worked there was business or business casual, but it probably depends on the branch and location you work at. I worked downtown. Chase employees are very very diverse: all different backgrounds, races, gender etc.
Compensation
Tellers are paid by the hour. Usually starting around $10.00 an hour with a yearly raise of about 2.5%, which comes out to $10.25 an hour. They say that there is a quarterly or annual bonus if the branch reaches it's sales and customer service goals, and the tellers can get the bonus too if they reach their referral goal. But I rarely knew any teller who actually received such a bonus.
Advice to Jobseekers
Use the job as a way to pay the bills while you are looking for something else, like studying for the LSAT. They offer health benefits, stock options and 401Ks. If you are good at sales and interested in moving to a retail Banking position this might be a way in. But, on the otherhand, it may just end up being a rut you get stuck in.
