Job Responsibilities
Designing and implementing complex modifications to existing
corporate IT systems. Most work was done on mainframe computers,
or workstations integrated with mainframes. I worked with
business partners and outside organizations to define project
requirements and to translate these requirements into technical
systems enhancements.

Job Requirements
I have broad experience in IT systems, including programming and
systems design skills. I also have learned a great deal about the
various business organizations that I serve - mostly financial
and banking, as well as telecommunications, import-export customs
brokerage and insurance systems.

I most enjoy seeing my business partners satisfied with a flawless, and
well-performing system.

I do not enjoy working in a closely-supervised, IT 'ivory-tower'
within a company. I enjoy engaging with my business partners to
seek solutions to their systems needs.

Mostly business-casual or very casual, except when working with customers or
high-level management.

Compensation
Can be very competitive, depending upon the level and the
assignments. Schwab was VERY generous, including quarterly
bonuses tied to company and department performance.

Advice to Jobseekers
It is better to seek knowledge and job-training skills in a
specific field, i.e., accounting, business, science, biotech,
etc... rather than specialize in computer systems. There are VERY
FEW POSITIONS for highly technical individuals that have no
knowledge of the practical use of computing systems in business.
