Job Responsibilities
Responsible for P&L of hospital accounts. Distribution is the function of managing the channel for all hospital medical supplies and services. For example, gloves, all wound care, custom packs, instruments, and services, such as logistics and space utilization. Additionally, responsible for all pricing and GPO contract maintenance. Most of my time is spent servicing cutomers, assisting in product substitution, or troubleshooting a lost order, etc. Selling is the primary objective, but rarely get to because of other issues.
Job Requirements
Must have a bachelor degree and some selling experience.
Uppers
Flexibility. My office is in my house. I come and go as I please. This would be true for all sales representatives. My customers are fun to work with.
Downers
Driving. Monotonous work. Rarely challenging. Don't confuse activity with quality work. There is always activity but rarely any fulfilling work. The company is big and inflexible at times, so it makes problem resolution a longer task than need be.
Lifestyle
Work hours are normal a 8 hours. Business travel is to and from accounts with an occassional out of town meeting. Dress code is business attire, rarely a social event to attend. The company doesn't have holiday parties, nor does the regional team. A very poor social network. Diversity is about 50/50. The company welcomes all qualified applicants.
Compensation
Salary is okay, no bonuses. Paid at a percentage to quota. Need to be at 100% to quota to get paid 100% of salary. 95% to quota equals 92% salary. Health benefits are okay, not great. I'm not a heavy user of healthcare, so I don't require a great plan. No company vehicle, pay for your own wheels. Employee stock options are available if you want to buy them. A good 401 (k). New hires get 2 weeks vacation, 5 years for three weeks, etc.
Advice to Jobseekers
Job outlook is good. Advice? Apply if you want to work for a Fortune 20 company. Don't expect a defined career path, training, professional support, or collaborative team work. You are a silo among silos. The name of the game is making your quota, nothing more or less.
