Job Responsibilities
Responsibilities as a conductor vary. You must move freight cars
from one location to another, but there is alot of autonomy in
this job. You have alot of decisions to make every day, decisions
that can greatly affect the company, a goo decision could make
the company happy, a bad decision could cost the company millions.

Job Requirements
5 Week special training class ($10,000) Basically if you pass
this class (I dont know of anyone who has not...) you have bought
your job...unless you fail a drug test... your in.

Freedom.....no boss hanging right over your head all of the time

Downers
Hours, Hours, Hours ! The hours are terrible, unless you have 30
years of seniority, you are going to work at night, 6 days a week
and on every holiday for the next 15 years.

Lifestyle
Be careful...this is a very dangerous business, you can be gone
in the blink of an eye. I dont want to call your family and tell
them you won't be coming home. Always, Always pay attention to
whats going on around you.

Compensation
Base salary realistically is about 40 to 50 thousand a year, plus
benefits.....not great but not bad. Unless you were hired pre
1980 you dont get stock options or anything elese.
