Job Responsibilities
Work under nurses providing the most direct care with patients
day to day. Your tasks are simple: taking vitals, meals, and
assisting patients/residents.

Job Requirements
I was hired as a nurses assistant. My work then paid for me to
take a class hosted at my work, paid me the hours it took me to
come in for lab/homework time and gave me a raise once
certified. The class is EASY. The skills testing is stressful
but also fairly easy. You basically need no prior experience to
get into this field.

Uppers
The people you care for, usually greatly appreciate your help. Its better than
working at a fast food restaurant and its more respected.
|
Downers
You literally deal with crap. There will be times when people
your age to over a hundred will need you to hold their hand in
the bathroom and clean up when they dont make it. You see people
naked and hurt. If you work in a care home you are constantly
working with death, easing the pain, and doing post-mortem care.
You get blamed for problems, you have a lot of responsibility
and the burnout is high.
|
Lifestyle
Work hours are usually eight hours. Depends on the facility.
|
Compensation
As a nurses assistant, I recieved $7.63.
However, with getting certified, I should be getting a raise to
about nine or ten.
I get time and a half on most holidays. There are benefit
options but you take a lower salary for it and I choose not to
take them.

Advice to Jobseekers
Just apply and call them for an interview. Its easy to get into
and a more professional transition to the next thing. I wouldnt
want to do this for too long but you learn a lot and it looks
good.
