Job Responsibilities
5 direct reports ( Sales Managers) that specifically handle accounts within the Produce Industry. Primarily responsible for the strategic sales plans in my region. Account management of existing accounts is the primary focus. -Lane expansion through account supply chain analysis. ( How can we get the account the use more of our produce) -Asset Management. Customers must maintain the balances or face lost equipment charges. --Customer Service assists Sales Managers with Audits to help keep balances in line. --Regional Manager measures/monitors Sales Managers compliance. Tied to bonusable KPI AR- Assist Accounts Receivable with collections and assit in makeing go forward decisions
Job Requirements
People with an accounting or Fianace back ground are desirable and a Master degree helps as well. CHEP dies over a fast track program called Leadership Development Program. CHEP overs several internal training classes that are primarily designed to integrate people into the CHEP culture. These include Leading in a Matrix organization and Six Sigma Training all the way to Black Belt.
Uppers
Working with and developing people. So many people that i inherited did not have a strong Sales bacground and skills set. I was able to develop in over half of my reports and import the rest.
Downers
As with most companies that are publicly traded, the share holder value proposition can compromise business decisions. CHEP has become very cost focused over the past couple of years and most of these decisions have been good but now it is time to lay over Sales goals and strategies and revisit the decisions that may be impacting Sales Revenue.
Lifestyle
Weekends are alwayse free with the occasional Sunday trip to be in meetings on a Monday. I start my days by 7 AM and will work until 6PM if necessary Mon-Thursday. Typically you can free up almost every Friday afternoon in this business if you are a good time manager. I overnight travel 2 weeks out of every month on average. Typically the holidays are free. It is the 2 weeks prior and the 2 weeks after that are busy.
Compensation
$95,000.00 base. Bonus up to 18% of Salary. Tiered Auto Allowance based on mileage.Fidelity 401 K with 6% matching.(100% on first 3% and 50% on last 3 %). Blue Cross health plans
Advice to Jobseekers
Equipment pooling is on the rise. Compare CHEP to companies like CPC, Peco, Ifco, Rehrig Penn Alliance, Orbis Containers, Georgia Pacific Container division. I think the outlook is generally good and CHEP remains as the pallet leader.
