Uppers
I can say nothing nice about the job in general. Insurance benefits are fair,
401K plan is acceptable except that the customer service of 401K plan was poor.
Yearly bonuses were a plus when financial management allowed them to be given.
One year after earning 100% bonuses for the finance department, management took
them away after the fact. Another year they cut them by 25% after the fact.
Really nice way to treat your employees.

Downers
Financial supervisors and managers are complete, unadulterated
morons. In addition, supervisors are totally impossible to
reason with in all areas. Several supervisors and managers that
I have personally dealt with are pathological liars and have
absolutely no integrity with the accounting staff. Supervisors
continually load you down with more work than anyone can
possiblly complete on a weekly basis. In essence, the management
sets you up for failure. Financial supervisors, managers, and
directors have no management skills, are difficult to
communicate with, and plan very poorly. The poor planning and
bad management causes three times as much work as should be
necessary for the entire staff. In general, British Telecom is
the worst work environment that I have ever experienced in my
entire accounting career. I would not recommend employment with
this company to my worst enemy.

Lifestyle
Dress code is dress casual which is the only good thing I have to say about the
work environment at BT. Management expects you to have no personal life at all
but to work all day and night. Computer systems needed to perform work are
constantly down. Too many long hours have to be spent at work throughout the
whole month, because of poor financial management, poor management planning and
poor computer system management. 65 to 80 hour weeks and working 18 to 24 hour
days during month-end close are common. I would not recommend employment at
British Telecom (a.k.a. BT Global Services, Inc. and BT Americas, Inc.) to
anyone, period!!!!!!!!!!!!

Compensation
Base salaries in finance at British Telecom in the Atlanta, GA.
and Reston, VA. markets is average at best. Usually for most
starting positions they are below average. Once you reach the
higher levels in salary, BT will just get rid of you. Can you
say age discrimination. The stock options are worthless because
the BT stock is worthless. Insurance benefits are fair at best,
as the deductibles are extremely high.

Advice to Jobseekers
Unless you want to work very long hours to the point of mental
and physical exhaustion and be abused by management at the same
time, I would not consider a position with British Telecom under
any circumstances.
