Job Requirements
It is my experience that skills and character are what is
important. Different people come to those in different ways. No
specific education qualified me for this job, nor does it seem to
be a consistent component with executives I have met. What is
consistent is:
-Entrepeneurial experience
-Drive
-Integrity
-Reliability
-Intelligence and Creativity
|
Uppers
It is:
-Fast Paced
-Interesting
-Growing opportunity
-Well compensated
-Meeting interesting people
-Intellectually stimulating
|
Downers
-The work is tough.
-Being a manager means there are constantly people trying to use
and abuse you. What's worst is that it is the people you are most
trying to help.
-The clients are extremely demanding and they can contact at any
time day or night.
-It is a results oriented environment which means that best
efforts don't count for much.
|
Lifestyle
-I travel more than most in my company and peers in the industry as far as I
know. About 3 to 4 months a year. That is good and bad. I get to travel to
interesting places, but it is rough sometimes. The dress code here is formal,
suit every day. Diversity in the industry is improving globally and this company
is consistent with that trend, though industry-wide I would say that women do not
get to the upper echelons as often as they perhaps should.
Work hours when you are working with Financial Services companies are pretty
much whatever they need to be to get the job done.

Advice to Jobseekers
-Be curious
-Work on communication skills, they are typically greatly lacking
in both written and verbal form in people new to the business
-Ditch your ego and sense of entitlement. The world doesn't owe
you anything more than what you produce yourself. If you think it
does, there is a limit to how far you can go.
-Say less, mean more
-Never tell someone something in confidence that you are not
willing to have said to the person you are talking about;
everything get s back to everyone eventually.
-Never participate in communication about someone unless they are
present if you can afford.
