Location: Newbury Park, CA

Experience: Mid-level
Highest Level of Education: Undergraduate Degree

Job Responsibilities
Processing and reviewing large group, small group and individual claims. Conversing with members, physicians, and other contracted individuals about patient's claims and benefits.
Job Requirements
It is best to have a college education under your belt before applying for this position because it requires proficient writing skills and math skills. However, if you have worked in a similar environment or at Blue Cross for at least 2 years then this position would be understandable for you as well.
Uppers
A limited amount of phone calls allows for additional time in order to have more intimate and complete conversations with the callers. In this position, one also has the homecourt advantage of being able to understand the confusing world of healthcare, which comes in handy for personal necessity and in case of emergency.
Downers
It requires a lot of training and memorization. It is also a very time consuming position that oftentimes requires that you stay past your 8 hour day in order to finish up your responsibility.
Lifestyle
This position requires that you work full time (8 hour days with a half hour lunch and two 15 minute breaks). It does not require business travel. Blue Cross is a great company to work for because it often holds events to acknowledge and appreciate its associates (such as holiday parties, customer service week, and other commemorative events). Blue Cross' only restrictions on a dress code are that no shorts, revealing clothing, or logo shirts (other than Blue Cross logos) are permitted. Blue Cross does not mind if you have piercings, tattoos, or even funky colored/cut hair. Also, Blue Cross is a non-discriminatory employer who judges solely on your work experience when considering anyone for a position.
Compensation
This position allows for a pay grade of $14-17 an hour. Blue Cross provides great insurance packages (medical, dental and life) to its employees along with pension plans, 401K (Vanguard), and stock options. Blue Cross will even help to reimburse you if you carpool/vanpool to work or if you are attending college while working here.
Advice to Jobseekers
Blue Cross is always seeking new customer service associates. Even if you do not have the experience that I mentioned previously, you should still apply for a Customer Care Advocate I position or another position along those lines. Blue Cross is a great company to be a part of and can provide for a long and prosperous career.
