Job Responsibilities
I no longer work for Bloomberg. I scrutinized internal and external data flow processes, uncovering program anomalies...data flow from source to object. Whether it was contributor/feed data or Bloomberg derived data, there were always problems. I managed a Pricing/QA electronic queue of client inquires; upon analysis, I discovered where problem originated, whether it was contributor issue or internal bug/design issue. I was in direct contact with contributor/programming, and our programming group in NYC. I also worked in Mortgages and International Bonds. All the code in the world cannot handle Uniquely Structured Financial Instruments. I sought formulas in prospectuses, and once again, contacted source of data and NY programming to resolve data/data flow issues. I developed understanding and envisioned mainframe structure and behavior. I managed and maintained Ticker Plant Database, and directly effected prices and rates available to our customers worldwide.
Job Requirements
hands on, on the job training; education in Currencies, Mortgages and International Debt. As employees, we also had access to BU (Bloomberg University), and were encouraged to increase understanding of financial markets and all Microsoft applications.
Uppers
Always busy, never bored, team work, working independently, thinking on your feet, performing in the clutch, soothing irate clients...job was very satisfying
Downers
No worst parts, only that after a long illness they elected not to "rehire" me - that's the worst
Lifestyle
dress code was corporate casual; we were all very busy; no travel; typical 9-5 job (except during peak periods, we were expected to stay late - no problem! the customers were waiting!)
Compensation
I began at $26,000; following year $30,000; next year $35,000 - $39,000, $42,000, $44,000... hard work was rewarded.
Advice to Jobseekers
Very exciting, phenomenal product, hard satisfying work.
