Downers
Not really downers. If you forget to order something for manufacturing, it can shut the production line down. Have to be organized and you have to be tough with vendors that don't always comply. If something goes wrong purchasing gets the grunt of it. Everything gets dumped on the buyer.
Lifestyle
It isn't a 9-5 job, You leave when you are done. When it is busy you have to work or else others suffer. As a buyer travelling should be a large part of the business. Dress code business professional. You have to always conduction yourself in a business matter.
Compensation
Many company who understand that purchasing is a big part of the business pays well. Many companies do offer bonuses and stock options. In my industry which is medical the pay is okay but if you bench mark with companies in the same industry we are not paid well.
