Job Responsibilities
Attorney & Counsellor at Law - 100%, Client Relations - 100%, Rainmaking - 100%, Office Management - 20%. I am always an attorney first which includes current, past, and future client relationships. This means I am always marketing as well. Actual office management takes some time as well.
Job Requirements
I have been a CPA for over a dozen years. I worked in public accounting and industry. I have always been heavily involved in charitable organizations. Because of my ongoing skills, interests, and confidence, I knew that I would likely be solo shortly after law school and focused on which classes would help me in my chosen career path.
Uppers
I am the boss and responsible for everything.
Downers
I am the boss and responsible for everything.
Lifestyle
Must have a strong backbone and major amounts of self-esteem. Further, must have a good combination of intelligence and common sense. I work long hours, but most attorneys do. I choose what social events, charitable events, and political events I participate in. I wear casual clothes, unless a suit is required. My clients respect me before they know that I am an attorney, by my personality and integrity. Always be true to yourself and know your limitations.
Compensation
This is set by the boss. I am the boss. All fees are ngotiable, but I won't take a client if they won't pay my fees, up front. Also, use evergreen accounts if it is ongoing business. Must get paid, or I, like any good employee, will not work.
Advice to Jobseekers
Be smart. Be persistent. Get out there and get involved in the community. Do not be a jerk - to clients or other attorneys. Always return phone calls. Always get fees up front.
