Job responsibilities include spending at least an hour per
morning with employees working in your supervision. Plan out
both day and week or check up on prior days goals. Spend at
least and hour or more walking thru area of responsible to find
errors in out of stock, labeling issues, merchandise changes,
etc. Make a list and incorporate into the week list or add to
the following weeks list. Rest of day is spent in greeting all

Job Requirements
Education requirements for the most are High School Diploma.
College grads in the business field would climb the corporate
ladder into the home office faster if that is the desired level
to be in. Most of the workload in retail is what you yourself
put on you. If organized, the workload will be 90% delegation
and the other 10% physical.

Uppers
Retail management is an ever changing job that is very innovative, very intense
during seasonal changes, very rewarding in the sense of merchandising and the
end
results of gained sales and profit. It allows you to meet new people on a daily
basis, see any part of the country you wish to live in, use your imagination in
displays.

Downers
Worst part are the hours and times worked. As a rule, the
average week for a salaried manager is 55 to 60 hours. In
certain times of the year(Christmas) the hours increase to 6 days
per week for the last 3 or 4 weeks before Christmas due to the
massive amount of traffic in stores, the heavy freight flow
coming in, and constant changing displays.

Lifestyle
The very best advice to give a person seeking a career in retail
management is this simple phrase told to me by Mr. Sam Walton
years ago: "Fix the obvious" It works today and will work far
into the future. Just fix what you see or hear, the rest will
take care of itself. One other thing, leave work at work, never
take it home with you. Always seperate work form personal and
dont mix them.

Compensation
Base salary for this position is based on previous experience and
education. It generally is combined with the metro your in to
create a salary that will allow the lifestyle you desire. In the
area I live(Arkansas), and in a large metro area, along with 25+
years of experience, my starting pay was 45000 per year with a
quarterly bonus of around 6-800 dollars, based on results of
sales, payroll, and other factors involved in daily store
operations.
