Job Responsibilities
In my current position my responsibilities vary from job to job.
I am a temporary worker, filling in when and where necessary.
Right now I am a Receptionist for a Massage Therapists office and
also the Receptionist for the Massage Therapy School. I am
responsible for answering the phones, making appointments,
keeping the Therapists and Teachers informed of where they need
to be and what they need to be doing. I am also responsible for
scheduling the Student Massages. I file patient charts, copy
teachers assignments for their students. Sort the mail, mail out
brochure information to possible students. Take care of any
retail sales out to the shop, for the Students or Therapists.

Job Requirements
A high school diploma is always helpful and age. With age not
only comes wisdom but also experience. If you can take the basic
skills you gain through other employment opportunities and use
them in the next situation your usefullness increases as well as
your worth.

Uppers
Getting to interact with the teachers and therapists. Knowing that the clients
are satisfied with their experience. Having a new avenue for a possible career.
I am considering taking classes at the school in the future after I become
certified in Medical Coding at Johnson County Community College.

Downers
I don't enjoy answering the phone. That is one of my primary
responsibilities here. I spend a lot of time on the phone. I
have telemarketed in previous years and I feel I burnt myself out
in that particular industry.

Lifestyle
This is a great job for the late riser. The hours are Monday through Thursday
from 10 am to 7 pm. Friday from 10 am to 6 pm. Saturday and Sunday are from 10
am to 4:30 pm unless there are early classes or seminars, but the earliest you
have to be in is 8:15 am. The lead receptionist only has to work Monday through
Friday. They have other receptionists that man the weekends. There is no travel
required. I've noticed that the students are close. The classes are small and
usually whoever begins the Semester together graduates together. The Teachers
and Therapists are obviously happy in their positions. It is a very relaxed
environment, and allows one their own eccentricities. The dress code is relaxed,
just casual but nice attire. Professionalism is recommended since you are the
first person the client, student, teacher, sales person sees. This position has
a lot of information needed to be absorbed within a short period of time, but
once you figure out the program it isn't too difficult. The rate of pay is
adequate for the hours and work expected from you. There are no health benefits
from the company, but AppleOne Employment does offer benefits for part time or
full time employees after you meet the requirements.

Compensation
The wonderful thing about Temping is the fluctuation in schedule,
pay, location and co-workers or bosses you work with and for.
This is not for everyone. For those that enjoy a stable, solid
environment that doesn't vary much from day to day this is not
the job for you. I decided a long time ago how much my time was
worth per hour. In normal situations with temping, for them to
perform this service part of what the company pays goes to the
employment agency, so technically if offered a position to get
hired on with the company you get assigned to your pay may
increase. I've found with receptionist or administrative work
the rate of pay is normally between $9.00 and $15.00 depending
upon experience. AppleOne Employment seems to offer competitive
wages, benefits and a structured 401k plan to those who qualify.

Advice to Jobseekers
I feel this is a very formidable commodity for the workforce. It
offers companies the opportunity to take some of the
responsibility and pressure away from their Human Resource
Department. This is an inexpensive way to find good workers.
The temporary agency weeds out all of the less qualified workers
and gives to the cream of the crop.
