Reading/writing 70%--writing letters, motions, briefs,
memorandums, and papers.
Oral communications 30%--with collegues, clients, judges, etc.

Job Requirements
Undergrad degree could include any and all subjects that require
analysis, reading, writing, and making comparisons. English,
political science, math, philosophy and all types of liberal arts
degrees seem to be common amoung lawyers. People with Science
and engineering backgounds also seem to do well in law school.
Students should try to take classes where they have access to
professors (for attention and recommendations), where they are
challenges, and where they do well. Law School can be very
challenging to enter and to stay

Compensation is good. The work can at times be very interesting.

Downers
Attorneys can be difficult to work with and surprisingly passive
when evaluating work performance. Also, there are a lot of
unhappy negative people in the profession, making it easy to
becaome jaded.

Lifestyle
business dress code. hours are generally 9 am to 7 pm but you are expected to be
available at all times, including weekends and vacations. There can be many
social events during the summers and plenty of events throughout the year if you
are involved in networking.

Compensation
$160,000 annual salary. bonus up to $30,000, no stock options,
full benefits including 401K with limited employer contribution.

Be careful where you work and if you are not getting what you
want you should leave. Network throughout your career. It will
help you find new options and places to work, It will also help
you with client development efforts, which will because
increasingly more important for persons at large coporporate
firms.
