Job Requirements
I have been in financing for 10yrs+, I have worked consumer & commercial and now real estate. I have not completed my degree, I have completed approx. 2 years into my degree.
Uppers
Other than being out in the field when necessary, there is not much I would really consider the best part of my job. Not too many employees of American General Financial Services are happy working there.
Downers
Constant pressure, too much pressure from ADO's or DM's trying to manage your day, when they have absolutely no idea of what you do or how you do it, each branch is different. Also, this position is consider an Assistant Manager, however has been re- named to be Financial Representative... the managers including their superiors treat employees as kids, this has been the complaint across the board. There is far too much discrimination amongest the management team with disabilites, pregnancy or even race depending on the district you are in and what the majority is, then that race will be placed there and not have a chance for upper management unless... the race is in their favor... very sad.
Lifestyle
Long hours between Oct-Dec. Then again in April. American General Financial Services, comes up with every reason in the world not to have business celebrations, unless it is amongest the elite of managers, which they are honored with vacations, combined with seminars. In the field a lot with this position, including the banks, retailers, and consumers homes.
Compensation
The pay is awful. I was even told from another American General Financial Services associates with AIG who owns American General Financial Services, that the pay is not compensated as it should be, many of us are under paid by 10k to 17k on average. Also, widely known amongest this company, is the pay between the men vs. women, men on average in the same position make $4-$8 more than a female of equal qualifications or more working experience. The vacation pay is good once at 3 years = 3 weeks paid vacation with personal days for another 3 days and 5 sick days.
Advice to Jobseekers
My advice, try to work for the parent company AIG, not American General Financial Services, unfortunately AIG is not able to see the behaviors amongest their subsidaries. If you come on board for this position request a minm of $38k in the Atlanta region, the job is not work it for that, but at least you will not sign up for a raping. Also be prepared to take you Georgia Life Accident Sickness insurance test within 6 months...not a hard test, just set aside the time to study at home. If you are placed in ADO---Kathy Mixon beware she is not a good person to work for unfortunately she should have retired, instead opts to take on her evil self against the employees. She herself will demand a lot from you, completely skipping the manager to speak with you, and just so you know if she demands a degree, she herself has only a high school diploma and no more and worked herself from the bottom of the chain as a customer associate, so beware of her nose and high she sticks it when you go over your education degree or no degree, she has no right to explore, if you know the job or the function then you know it. Leave it at that.
