Job Responsibilities
I'm responsible for managing approximately 275 high net worth
household relationships. As a Private Banking I coordinate all
of the personal financial services the bank offers for my
clients. Although maintaining customer satisfaction is an
important task, business development within the HNW sector is my
primary function.

Job Requirements
I'm not sure how to answer what you're asking... I have a BS in
Business Administration from the University of Alabama at
Birmingham.
|
Uppers
Fast-paced environment, opportunity to work with a fascinating and dynamic
clientele, respect within the community, excellent earning potential.
|
Downers
The pressure to deliver revenue often overshadows the enjoyment
of doing good for clients. Wealthy customers are often eccentric
and difficult to please! I think this is a very stressful
occupation.

Lifestyle
My standard work hours are 8-5 Monday through Friday. This varies depending
upon workload and the needs of customers. I rarely see clients after 5:00, but I
often come to work at 7:00 in order to prepare reports or finish paperwork. I
generally have lunch with customers or eat at my desk. There is very little
travel involved with my job--5-6 trips per year to company headquarters in
Birmingham (60 miles) is generally the extent of it. My company encourages and
supports community involvement, so I'm very active with several local charities,
professional and civic groups. I spend 10-15 hours per month with those sorts of
activities. The dress code for men is suit and tie M-Th, business casual on
Fridays. Women wear business appropriate dresses, suits, skirts or slacks M-Th,
and business casual on Fridays. The atmosphere in Tuscaloosa is a bit more
casual for women than it would be in a larger city. We have after hours employee
gatherings 2-4 times per year, and officers entertain clients at organized
gatherings 4-5 times per year. I think our company does an excellent job at
promoting diversity.

Compensation
$70,000 base with the potential to earn an additional 100% of
salary annually based on performance. In a larger market, a
salary of $85-90,000 would be average. Stock options are also
awarded based on performance. AmSouth is very generous in paying
top performers, but the benchmarks are incredibly challenging. 3
weeks vacation for exempt employees, 401k, paid life insurance
and pension are standard among banks our size. The bank
subsidizes BCBS insurance, offers dental, additional life, AD&D,
flexible spending plans, prepaid legal plans and an employee
assistance program.

Advice to Jobseekers
This is a tremendously competitive field and becoming more so
every day as banks continue to merge. Large brokerage firms have
become players in the market, so there are a lot of people
looking for the same customers. I highly recommend this line of
work to those who are highly motivated and performance driven.
