Job Responsibilities
I am a teacher for a two grade level classroom - 1st and 2nd grade. I teach in a religious day school and I am their secular studies teacher. I teach in a room with one other teacher and 2 aides. There are 23 kids ranging from 6 yrs old to 9 years old. We teach each child according to their own needs. (their own workbooks and curriculum).
Job Requirements
They have secular studies in morning and religious studies in the afternoon.
Uppers
I love the teaching environment. The educational philosophy of the school is amazing. I have never seen so many kids at so many different levels thrive so well.
Downers
I travel atleast 40 minutes to work and it doesn't pay enough for my childcare or all my other expenses so I may have to take a leave of absence for a few years while my kids are young. I don't want to just cause I love my job and I am pssionate about teaching this way.
Lifestyle
I teach from 8 AM till 12PM and I teach all regular subjects. We learn themes every month and we're doing a unit on the solar system now. We also have time where we do reading workbooks, read with each kid in the class every single day and we have time for math workbooks, writing assignments and anything else that comes up. We have art class once a week and all other bonus classes are scheduled in the afternoons.
Compensation
I receive medical insurance and I am reinbursed for whatever expenses I have from purchasing items for my classroom. I also may bill things to school accounts when necessary.
Advice to Jobseekers
I do not suggest anyone to go into education unless they have 200 percent of their heart in it. 100% is not enough because it does not pay anything in a nice school. There is always some kind of trade off. I truly love teaching with my whole soul. We impact lives more than anyone else on earth. Its key that we think about that before we go into this field marely to make a buck like anyone else.
