Uppers
Very challanging, working with great people. Cutting edge technology. Very
independent position, not much interference from immediate management.
|
Downers
Other then the "leadership" from the executive level (it IS AT&T after all!!),
NOTHING comes to mind.
|
Lifestyle
Great! As long as my deliverables are met and we produce the revenue we commit
to, very flexible working environment. Work VO if it is not convenient to get in
the office. Other then conference calls and scheduled meetings, I could work
from 8pm to 4am or 4am to 8pm or 9am to 5pm. All the company cares is that the
work is done and I'm where I commit myself to be.

Compensation
Above average salary, $90,000. Bonus not as good this year as
last... although I received a 2.5% raise in salary my total
compensation was less this year than last. Some token incentive
bonuses came through as well (I believe $500 total grossed up).
Benefits are good, though we pay more and more for them every
year (like everyone else, I am sure!) Health Insurance (PP0),
HCRA, Dental, both Pension and 401K, free life insurance up to
base salary, more can be purchased. Eye care and LTD can be
purchased, reasonably priced.

Advice to Jobseekers
For any occupation, don't forget about the benefits! I know
you're young and they don't seem to matter, they WILL! As for
Product Management, definitely review the company and see how
they do it. There is often confusion between "Offer Management"
and "Product Management", though most of the companies I've been
acquainted with treat them pretty much the same, though there
are nuances to each that are different (some homework!) Respect
those that have been there before you, they are excellent
teachers, if you let them! Very challenging career. It has
involved matrix management (more homework!!) that has made the
position very interesting and challenging. Overall, a very
rewarding occupation.
