Location: Overland Park, KS

Experience: Mid-level
Highest Level of Education: Undergraduate Degree

Job Responsibilities
I was hired to settle claims in litigation and pre-litigation. This was suppose to be a position that dealt with premises liability and high end bodily injury claims. It has turned into a job that involves "fast-track" duties, which means low end claims and vehicle repair. The promises made were false.
Job Requirements
The position I hold is to be for college degree person, my immediate supervisor had no college degree and basically moved up in the ranks because she dated and married a VP of the company. On the other hand I worked my way through two degrees. Now I'm paying back student loans, while she rakes in the money. Something a bit off in this equation.
Uppers
The ups of this job should be that you have the freedom to set your own time schedule and make calls and get claims settled in your own fashion. But AIGCS in Overland Park has been too structured for this to occur. They aren't concerned with the principles in the claims only with "numbers". These numbers aren't what keep customers happy, customer service keeps them happy and it can't be achieved by overworking your adjusters.
Downers
Same as above. If you try to apply for another position in the company no matter how good you perform on your present position, you are told they are hiring from outside. Not a great incentive to do well. The Vice President of claims has kept back many good candidates because he doesn't want to have to replace them, which is totally unfair to the people who should be moving up int he company.
Lifestyle
You are told you have to work as many hours as it take to get the job done, then they change the criteria of the position to include a larger claim count, plus throw in fast track claims. This position is not allowed to travel for mediations and are basically chained to your desk with an office manager, who has no education running the office.
Compensation
$60,000/year, no perks. The average raise for this past year was 2.5%, even after the entire department gave their best to help the fast track unit with their claims, not to mention the Katrina claims. This was a slap in the face to all that worked so hard.
Advice to Jobseekers
Find another company.....or another city for AIGCS. Someone in New York needs to watch Overland Park alot closer. The principle hiring personnel are ignoring talent in their own ranks and this needs to change.
