Job Responsibilities
Manage risk of portfolio; build/redevelop select models.
Job Requirements
Some professors are rather good. The workload is heavy. Grading is random and bizarre. Recruiting is limited and concentrated. A plurality get multiple offers and others suffer.
Uppers
High pay, fast-paced environment, loads of responsibility, flexible when possible, cool collegues.
Downers
Quantitative work, no female collegues, risk of collapse, insufficient admin support.
Lifestyle
You work roughly 60 hours per week, but often you work 80 or 40 or whatever. You travel as you are needed. More senior people travel more to beg for cash, junior people visit possible assets. Intelligent collegues, no stupid social events, great location in East Midtown.
Compensation
$110,000 base. $10K signing bonus. 20% garuanteed bonus, 30-40$ target. Extra bonus based upon yearly income and goals met.
Advice to Jobseekers
I never applied. A senior person at my old firm recommended me. You more or less must know one of the principals or be recommended to one in order to get a position with a hedge fund. out of b-school.
