| Sr. Software Engineer |
I've been in the SJ office almost a year, working as a Sr. Software Eng.
Ebay is a really cool company to work for, startup culture, they
compensate people very well. I work from home/beach 2-3 day out of the
month, and the managers are cool with it as long as you are on email/AIM
and as long as you get things done. You can wear anything as long as not
too outrageous. Hr varies but very flexible. I have had couple mid-
nighters and I have gotten called couple times on weekends. Other than
that, it is 10-6:30. At times things can get stressful, as there are a
lot of traffic to site.
Since the company is rapidly growing, advancement opportunities are
plenty. They promote from within heavily. Many engineers eventually
becomes manager. In Prod Dev, most of the people are Indian and Chinese,
so you have to be patient with their accents. Many mid-level management
positions are held by minorities.
I got a sense that the manager do care about the working bees. There is
360 degree feedback (upward, downward, peer, and process review).
Quarterly cash bonus (6% or 10% depending on grade) is tied to company
performance (if earning exceeds expectation by 150% then it is 6%*150%).
Ebay has been exceeding estimates for the past 8+ quarters. Annual raise
comprise of cash and stock, it can be pretty sweet depending on your
performance.
The company is pretty progressive. It gives back to the community
actively. Every employee is entitled to up to $1000 matching donation.
They match $1500 401k.
