I heard about my position that I was hired for from a friend that I was
working with at the time who had previously worked at Wyeth as a
contract recruiter. He forwarded my resume to the Staffing Manager and
recommended I be interviewed. In addition, I posted my resume on
monster.com and a few other websites... An outside recruiter saw my
resume and as a favor forwarded it on to one of our Corporate manager's
attention located in our global staffing group at another site. She
reviewed my resume, liked what she saw, so also ended up forwarding my
resume on to the Staffing Manager for consideration.
My actual hiring process involving coming in for one face-to-face
interview to meet with three managers (the staffing manager, a business
unit partner manager, and the site V.P. of HR). My interview was pretty
standard and was pretty informal--I spent about 45 minutes with each
contact. Standard questions but not even much emphasis on behavioral or
selective interviewing techniques that are popular now. Two days after
my first interview I was called to come back for a second interview. I
came in and it ended up not being a true second interview in that I
immediately was given an offer of employment which I accepted. I chose
not to negotiate anything on the salary nor did I ask for any kind of
sign-on bonus but I did ask for a third week of vacation which I was
quietly granted as this was not our company's standard policy for
someone at my salary level.
Upon receiving and verbally accepting my offer, I was then scheduled to
come back for a company physical and background check. These steps took
approximately one more week--so I ended up starting with the company
about two weeks after my 2nd interview.
