$70+ annually. Civil service is a good employer in the respect that you
can be
pretty much guaranteed an annual cost-of-living increase (usually
anywhere from
2
to 4 percent) and regular step increases. Each grade in civil service
has 10
steps associated with it. For the first 3 years of service, you get a
within-grade increase every year, years 4 to 6 occur every 2 years, and
years 7
to 10 every 3 years. When I first accepted this particular job, I was
at grade
11/step 3. In the 10 years I've been in this job, my responsibilities
have
increased to the point that I was upgrade to a grade 12. My current
step is at
the 7 level, so I have almost reached my maximum salary capacity. Leave
time is
very enticing. I currently receive 8 hours of vacation time every 2
weeks, and
4
hours of sick leave every 2 weeks. I am allowed to carry over 240 hours
of my
vacation time every year and there is no limit to my sick leave. In
fact, any
sick leave (in 30-day increments) can be added to my total retirement
years when
that day comes. Civil service may not be the most exciting job out
there, but
if
you're looking for security, then it can't be beat.
