Wellpoint is a very employee focused company, especially considering its
size. First of all, the company has outstanding benefits: low cost
health insurance, 401K matching, a stock purchase plan, a generous
vacation time from hire date, and other attractive benefits.
Additionally, the company allows alternative work arrangements such as
telecommuting from home and 10 hr / 4day work weeks for some
professional positions, such as nurses. The culture encourages
professional growth and diversifying; for example, it is not uncommon
to recruit for open positions from within the company, which allows
employees who may be looking for something different a change in their
career without leaving the company. The dress is business
casual,however, some business units seem to vary on how relaxed 'casual'
means. The pay is very competative; I left a management position to come
here and did not take a cut in pay. The company is growing rapidly and
is financially very stable. It is notable that Wellpoint is often
recognized by leading organizations as being a preferred employer as far
as diversity, benefits, etc.
