For a company of its size, Washington Mutual is a relatively decent
place to work. The hours are reasonable - some groups work overtime,
but my group hardly ever does. Dress code is business casual. We are
a very diverse organization - plenty of opportunities for women and
minorities. People are encouraged to move throughout the organzation,
especially from my group. The culture has historically been friendly
and team-oriented. However, in recent years, we have hired a bunch of
ex-GE executives who have altered the culture to a dog-eat-dog, look
out for yourself mentality. The Company is now managed with 100% focus
on the impressions of Wall Street. We do everything we can to take
care of customers and to increase the bottom line, but retention no
longer seems to be a priority
