Working at Washington Mutual has been a wonderful experience for me. I
was initially hired as a temporary receptionist to save up money for a
move. However, Washington Mutual was opening a site in the location I
moved to. They saw something in me and decided to hire and train me to
then be transfered to the new office! I was amazed at how willing they
were to spend their time training someone who was not even going to be
working for them in that office. They offered me a wonderful salary
starting at a very competative rate. In fact, I make more than most
everyone in my family with two working parents and three older brothers
who all work as well. I started at a rate that it took some of them
years to get to. I have worked a lot of hours at my job, but it was
something that I knew when I started. And if I can't work those hours
for some reason, they do not force me to stay. The other wonderful thing
about Washington Mutual is that they like to hire from within. I have
gotton three promotions within a year-and-a-half. I was honest about
where I wanted to be and they are working towards those goals with me.
I have found the management in general to be extremely approachable.
They listen when we talk and are consistently looking for places to
encourage us in our work and make it a community, not just a work
environment. We have a dress code, but we also have one day each week
set aside as a casual day. I would encourage anyone to get a job at
Washington Mutual. In fact, whenever any one of my friends/family
starts complaining about their job, I always tell them they should apply
here. It is a great corporate culture, competative pay, good benefits,
and ultimately just a wonderful place to work.
