Worling at Disney is both fun and exasperating--fun out among
the "guests" (as disney calls it's patrons,) and exasperating in that
what you're told and reality are 2 different ballgames. Disney prides
itself on being the most diversity-oriented company anywhere, but
believe me, if you've been there awhile, Disney management does all it
can to give you reason to move on (yes, read OUT.) Plus, if you speak
English, count on it that you are the one in trouble for "letting" your
non-English speaking co-worker do something wrong.
Yes, practically any job can be found inside the resort, at practically
any hours, and for "onstage" workers (like me) they even
provide "costumes". But, like any big company, the opportunity is there
if you're willing to bite your tongue and tell the brass what they want
to hear. This explains why I'm not management there, I'm sharper than
most of my "superiors" and this they view as a threat (as an hourly
worker, I'm under union contract protection, as a salaried, I wouldn't
be, again like any big company.)
The other reason I've not taken advantage of the opportunity to move up
is that my position has a freedom to it not found anywhere else--as long
as the job gets done, I don't mistreat a guest, and I show up on time;
nobody bothers with me, I'm pretty much free to do the job the way I
want.
