The culture of Wal-Mart is extremely unique and provides an very
productive workplace environment. First off, the foundation of Wal-Mart
is based off of 3 Basic Beliefs. They are as follows:
Respect for the individual
Service to the customer
Striving for Excellence
If you follow these 3 beliefs, Wal-Mart will be a very successful and
enjoyable career for you. Additionally, Wal-Mart has some other
cultural beliefs. The Sundown Rule...this states that whenever someone
is asked a question, they should make sure they provide a response
before the sun goes down (or basically the end of your shift). They
have the 10-Foot Rule. Whenever you come within 10 feet of someone, you
should smile and greet them. This was originally designed to be used
with customers, but it has grown into something that is used by all
associates whenever you approach anyone, where ever you are
(Distribution Center, Home Office, etc.) One of the most important and
desirable aspects of Wal-Mart is the Open Door policy. Quite frankly,
you can continue up the "chain of command" and ask questions regarding
decisions or policies until you feel content with the effort you have
made or until you have received the answer you want. Hours of operation
depend on the industry you work in, but there is something for someone
24hours a day, 7 days a week. Diversity is outstanding, they are
constantly pushing thier management to attend diversity classes and hire
with as much diversification as possible. Dress code, again, depends on
your position and your area of responsibility. Advancement
opportunities is probably unmatched by any other employer.
