I was at Verizon for just about 6 years and overall found my experience
to be a good one. Unfortunately due to a internal politics and group
restructuring was RIF'd in November of '04. The culture at Info Svcs,
the Yellow Pages group, is a good one overall. Unfortunately there are
quite a few hard liner telco mentality people there that are holding
the company down. They should have left long ago but due to the fact
they only know one business and one way of doing things they are stuck.
On the flip side, you cannot get better benefits, working hours and
size of organization. Where else can you still get a company paid
pension, 401k, and benefits that are dirt cheap yet top notch. The
only thing to watch out for is the analysis paralysis the organization
seems to be in at times.
Overall I would rate my experience at a 8, if you have the opportunity
do try to get a job there.
