Dress Code casual, management dresses in business casual. Cafeteria on
site; Al Customer Service Reps are required to pay Union Dues, but not
required to be Union Member (almost everyone is - CWA Local 1400), if
you are not union you will be "looked down on" - believe me, I know, I
am not union!
Customer Service Rep job is very very sales oriented, and pressure to
make sales quotas is great. Do not even consider this job if you don't
think you can do sales. You take 25-50 incoming calls a day, you may be
observed on any and all of your calls at any time without notice. You
have a set of standards that you must meet on every call. With very rare
exceptions, a sales offer must be made on EVERY call. Pay is excellent,
sales bonuses large, top reps earn $1000+ a month in sales bonuses. Just
meeting your goals will earn you $500-750 or so a month in bonuses.
Opportunity for advancement depends on you meeting sales goals, if you
don't you won't advance. Not a lot of opportunity at this time, but
occassionally positions open up and you can advance, but, again, only if
you have done very well in sales.
Schedule is rigid, and you can be suspended for tardiness and absense,
under certain conditions. You have two 15 monute breaks and either 1/2
hour or hour for lunch, times are set for you. On Tues-Fri you also
have 1/2 hour off time to make customer call back or attend to other
work that could not be done while the customer was on the phone. You can
also be suspended or fired for not meeting sales goals or making sales
attempts on all incoming calls.
On the positive side, it's the sort of job you always leave when you
leave. You never have to take home work! Reasonable amount of overtime
is offered, some is mandatory. On Monday, almost everyone always has
some overtime.
