The average emloyee does not have the latitude to make basic management
decisions. 95% of all decisions - strategic to tactical - are made at
the executive level. By executive level, I mean Sr VP or higher. All
other employees are glorified project managers. Most decisions are made
on the fly and implemented ASAP. The hours depend on the work group.
IT folks will be living in the office, most marketing positions are 9 to
5. VZ is very vocal about the diversity program. In fact, executives
have a target % of diversity hires for their organizations and their
bonus depends on achieving this goal. Is this the best thing for the
company? No! I have seen very qualified non-diverse people being passed
over for jobs that were given to people that didn't have a clue. Dress
code depends on the office but almost every office is business casual.
Very little opportunity for advancement, but let me clarify, my
definition of advancement is a promotion where you receive additional
responsibilites and money. VZ will allow you to move all over the
organization but you won't move up a level and forget about more money.
