Corporate Culture
The climate is very laid back and at times, maybe too much so among the
lower ranks. However, as you progress up the organization to more
senior
levels, there is a level of competition for funding and highly skilled
employees. Overall, it is a very supportive environment and challegning
atmosphere. Vanguard has been named top 100 companies to work for two
years in a row and top 100 companies to work for 3 years in a row. To
provide a background on the company, the name Vanguard comes from
Admiral Nelson's fleet, who was greatly admired by the late Mr. Morgan,
Mr. Bogle's mentor and the still kicking legend himself, Mr. Bogle.
Therefore, to show community, everyone at Vanguard is called a crew
member. In addition, the company is very young and has many intramural
leagues in the Fall and Spring. Furthermore, a lot of the crew members
run at lunch, which is a passion of the leadership.
Headquarters
Is in Mavlern, PA and the campus is reminscent of a college campus,
nestled in Chester County, PA. The campus also has a fitness trail for
those interested in exercising at lunch. In addition, there are offices
in Scottsdale, AZ and Charlotte, NC.
Office Layout
Is dominated by cubicles, except for principals, no exceptions.
Compensation-Bonsuses
Every June, there is a partnership payout of imaginary shares of
Vanguard stock to the crewmembers, which after only 2 years, is quite
large. In addition, there is also a year end bonus based on your
performance against your peers. At year end, you complete a self
appraisal, that is used along with your managers assessment determines
your raise.
Benefits
Bar none, are some of the best in any industry period. You name it, you
most likely have it at Vanguard. Everyone starts off with about 2 weeks
of vacation, but you have an option to purchase an additional week.
After one year, you will be eligible for a pension that vests in 7
years. The 401k plan vest immediately. Other perks include on site dry
cleaning, car detailing and washing, car inspections and oil changes,
and discounted gym memberships.
Diversity
Vanguard prides itself on its level of diversity among its crew members.
Hours
Depend mostly on the group and its leadership, expect to work between
40-
50 hours a week. As you move up the proverbial ladder, the hours will
climb.
Dress Code
Business formal Monday-Thursday and Friday is business casual.
Opportunities for Growth
Working for a large firm such as Vanguard, allows a crew member to have
many different jobs under different functional areas. It is very common
that most crew members change jobs about every 18-24 months. Your

path is dependent upon your ambitions.
