Working at Vanguard is similar to working for a state government. There
are excellant benefits like 401(k) with a match up to 4% of
compensation, Pension (10% of comp) plus health, dental, vision and
flexiable schedules. Dress code is Business (wear a tie) with Friday
casuals.
There are many areas where the corporate culture is very strong while
others seem to be insolated from this and remain disfunctional and
independant. Bad managers and employees tend to remain and the company
tends to be very very slow to repremend or remove. They live by the
creed "content cows give better milk".
Pay is low and raises are connected to annual reviews. Managers can
give anywhere from 0 to 10% increase annually. Think you can earn the
ten percent? Think again. I have been a top performer for the past
three years, earned revies in the top 10% of the company. My annual
increase averaged 6% and I am not alone.
There is little room for upward advancement. Top management is a club
for ivory league MBAs. Not a Harvard MBA? We have some nice middle
management for you but the top os reserved.
