Job Title Business Outlook Survey
Professor of Geology Very competetive. Looking at trends in competing schools. Sewanee realizes that her salaries are too low to attract some good people, and is currently increasing raises over a several year period. We are positioning ourselves to be more selective by boosting applications to the colege. Morale was low a few years ago when the market was down and raises were minimal. There is a strong sense of community here, and when one sector (staff) was understress (some positions terminated) the entire community registered its disapproval. We're in better times now and the overall climate is more optimistic. There is a vigorous faculty in place, and it is a good environment for incoming faculty to be mentored and supported, as long as we continue to keep our momentum in the salary area.
