There are approximately 5500 people in the USPTO. We will soon be centrally located in a new campus in Old Town Alexandria, VA. The Patent and Trademark employee work environment is quasi-quota production work with much emphasis and reward for making or exceeding quota. Like any work, the actual work is what you make out of it. The work environment is this side of wonderful. There is no dress code and the core work hour is from 1-2 every other Tuesday (no joke). Most of the government jobs are top heavy (i.e., high grades) with Patents having a special 10% pay increase plus bonuses and overtime. It is the federal government so negative issues with diveristy and lay- offs are foreign terms to us.
