Work hours: 7-4:30, */9hourdays, one 8 hour day and One flex day in 80
hour work period. Dress code casual unless in the field (in protective
clothing)or presenting at a meeting( in a suit and Tie). As a
environmental chemist/ scientist I work on Superfund site remediation,
project planning as a technical assistance expert in PCBs, and Dioxin.
Work is challengeing as I work on up to 20-30 projects at a time. As a
GS-13 in Region one I have no advancement oppurtunities unless I were
to be promoted into management of people. There is no paraleel career
track for scientists at EPA. I am at a point where promotion is not an
option. Career at EPA is essentially over. Returning to private
consulting is the only way to advancement. My first job was as a team
leader in the QA office, reviewing planns for the investigation of
haszardous waste sites and applying technical assistance to project
planning. Seven years in The organization was flattened and I no
longer was a team leader, I had a new supervisor that i would not
choose to work for and eventually I was forced to move to a new facility
50 miles from my house. I decided to leave and the management allowed
me to move to Boston and work in a different group. Now i assist two
separte divisions of EPA on technical chemistry issues. Iam also a
member of several national science workgroups and represent the region
on the National regional science council. I have published several
scientific papers on PCBs.
