Paralegal Specialist This was an honors placement with the Department of Justice with the Antitrust Division. In my section there were 20 other 22 year old's working in the same position that provided for comaraderie such as Thursday Bar Nights. The dress was business smart for big cases but during the investigatory periods, casual was key. Overtime was time and half which could be converted into vacation time as well. The job was demanding at times when cases heated up, but at other times you had plenty of time to surf the internet and chat with your officemates. Working for attorney's could prove stressful as different attorney's had different work styles and considered paralegals either valuable assistance or slave labor. The pay is not that bad (low 30K) considering the economy and health benefits are mandatory. There is no opportunity for advancement but an impressive salary increase is occurred after 12 months and 14 months on the job. Most people stay 1-2 years and apply for law school or grad school after as this is a prestigious resume booster and is an invaluable source for reccommendations. Although many people complain while working there, all realize no other job will give you a mini-college culture, amazing opportunities, and an impressive resume builder in one shot.
