Questions about grades, interests, why you want to work in the public
sector and specifically at DC. If you did not graduate from a top tier
law school, then you have to be at least top ten percent for serious
consideration. Order of the Coif or Order of Barristers is a definite
plus as well as Law Review. Journal experience is really a factor since
it really does not reflect academically review. Classes in
administrative law, constitutional law, civil procedure are a plus. Also
conflict of laws and health law are viewed favorably. If you have
trouble with a low grade point average during your first year. You had
better kick but the remaining two years. Great improvement and taking
challenging legal classes make get you and interview. When submitting
resume and cover letter be sure to proof proof proof for grammar, typos
and syntax. Failure to do so will result in a "sorry" letter. If
granted an interview, answer the questions asked. Ask intelligent
questions and show that your intelligent energetic person who is very
interested in providing legal support to the offices mission. Avoid a
haughty attitude or being too casual. If you have the grades, then one
reason to bring you in for an interview is to find out what kind of
person you are and whether the other attorneys enjoy working with you.
If you sincerely have something to offer to the office then discuss it
during the initial interview. Dress professionally. Of course,
impeccable grooming is also important.
