Our agency has several tiers with me being at the local level. Next
comes the Area Office, State Office, and National Office. Our contact
with the National Office is limited but my area and state offices are
very supportive. Our agency's diversity reflects the rural area's
breakdown. In my own office of three we have two Native Americans with
me being Cherokee and my assistant is a Seminole. Our core hours are 8-
4:30 M-F with our using compressed time when we are fully staffed and
working a bit before and after these hours. Dress code is casual
professional. Rarely do we wear ties unless dealing with lenders or
political representatives. Our work also sometimes requires field
inspections so we dress accordingly. Opportunity for advancement are
limited in local areas UNLESS you are willing to move. Advancement is
promoted and encouraged. I feel pretty lucky with the support we
receive but find that our agency mandates a lot of paperwork in loan
and grant making that sister agencies do not require for similar
projects and find this frustrating as to why.
